Bucket List: Yoga

If you read my post from a few days ago you already know that I completed an item off my bucket list and took my first yoga class EVER!

It was a great experience and to be honest I was not really looking forward to it. I prefer lifting weight and the thought of trying to stay in uncomfortable positions for a undetermined length of time was not my idea of a fun. I was a good sport and picked up my friend and decided to move into this new experience with a positive attitude.

my “what am I getting myself into face”

I knew that I needed a yoga mat and a bottle of water but that was about it. I wore tank top with spandex pants. It was a Bikram class and when I saw my friend she said I would die in those clothes and would be super hot. It was not that bad after all. I’m not saying that I did not sweat because the picture below would be proof that I was lying.

If you’ve never taken a Bikram Yoga class before please keep these suggestions in mind:

~ Wear something comfortable and won’t make you sweat any more than you have to..trust me when I tell you it’s hot in there.

~ Take a large bottle of water with you and make sure it spends some time in the freezer because your cold water will be hot before the end of class.

~ Bring a yoga mat

~ Bring a towel large enough to cover your yoga mat (remember the sweat I was telling you about

~ Bring an open mind and a positive attitude

I would totally take the class again and I’m even doing a few poses now on my own to try to get a little better at it. I still love lifting weight but adding something different was refreshing and fun.

In case you can’t tell from the last picture it will also help you get a good nights sleep. I was knocked out by the time I made it home.

  1. I love Yoga, especially Bikram! One thing I really miss from the East Coast – I haven’t found a hot yoga class anywhere local, yet. Glad you enjoyed – def a change of pace from lifting!
